Spaniard Alex Palou takes lights-to-flag maiden win in Super Formula Championship.

Palou secured his first triumph in the series at Fuji in treacherous wet conditions.

Alex Palou has brought his maiden win home in the ultra-competitive Super Formula Championship, which reached the halfway point of the 2019 season at Fuji this weekend.

Palou, at the wheel of a TCS Nakajima Racing-run Dallara SF19 car, started from the pole position and the pack lined up behind the safety car before the green flag waved after three laps. The Spaniard solidly stretched the gap between him and Tsuboi Sho to take the checkered flag in first place after 53 laps, more than thirteen seconds ahead of his closest rival.

Palou – who defended the colors of Campos Racing in championships such as the FIA Formula 2, the GP3 Series and the Euroformula Open- now moves into title contention in the Japanese-based racing series. Formula 1 drivers such as Pierre Gasly or Stoffel Vandoorne have recently contested the Super Formula Championship.

Palou’s racing career is managed by Monaco Increase Management, a company founded by Salvatore Gandolfo under the technical guidance of former driver Adrián Campos – who previously spotted talents such as Fernando Alonso and Antonio García–. The main goal of MIM is to provide an atmosphere of engagement for youngsters who are looking forward to become professional drivers.
