MONACO SET TO OFFER MORE EXPERIENCE FOR PORSCHE ROOKIE ZENDELI

May 23, 2024

Exactly one week after the Imola opener, Lirim Zendeli will strap himself back into the seat of his Ombra Racing Porsche 911 GT3 machine for the second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup which takes place this weekend around the streets of Monaco, where the headquarters of his Monaco Increase Management team are located.

The MIM-contracted German Porsche rookie aims to accumulate more experience – but above all increase the amount of track time in the car – in the third outing of a 2024 programme which sees him busy tackling 20 races on two different fronts, 12 in the six rounds of Italy’s domestic Porsche Carrera Cup Italia series together with eight in the Formula 1 support category around Europe.

The Monaco race is quite possibly the jewel in the crown for any racing series, the one they all want to win, and the 3.337 km city street course itself presents its own difficulties, including the fact that it is one of the slowest and tightest on the calendar with very few places to overtake between the barriers, but Lirim does at least have one advantage over his rivals – he is one of the few drivers on the grid to have had racing experience in the Principality, having already competed there in a Formula 2 single-seater.

Having seen the difficulties thrown up by the limited time available in last week’s Imola race, it will be absolutely vital for Lirim to gain a place on the starting-grid as high up as possible in Qualifying, given the characteristics of the track.

The Round 2 schedule follows the regular format of 45 minutes of Practice on Thursday afternoon, with 30 minutes of Qualifying on early Friday evening, with the Race at noon on Sunday taking place before the Monaco Grand Prix.
