EARLY RACE CONTACT BRINGS AN END TO WEHRLEIN’S ROUND 6 AT MISANO

Apr 13, 2024

Pascal Wehrlein’s race in a chaotic round 6 of the FIA Formula E World Championship at Misano suffered an unfortunate setback on lap 7 of 28 when the German, who was dicing in the leading group, made contact with the DS Penske machine of Jean-Eric Vergne ahead of him and damaged the front wing of his Porsche.

Up to that point the MIM-contracted driver, who got a confident start from P3, had headed the field on two occasions as the early laps produced some exciting action with various frontrunners scrapping for the lead.

Pascal had to come into the pits on lap 8 to fix the damage and he joined the race again in P20, which became P17 at the chequered flag, albeit over one minute down on the leaders. First place went to his TAG-Heuer Porsche teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, who made it six different winners in six races this season, demonstrating that the Porsche was the fastest package on the day.

Wehrlein will have an opportunity to make amends in Round 7 of the world championship at a scorching hot Misano tomorrow with the race starting at 15h00.

Da Costa was later stripped of his Misano E-Prix win after a technical breach concerning the throttle damper spring, handing the win to Oliver Rowland (Nissan) and promoting Wehrlein to P16.
