CRUCIAL PORTLAND E-PRIX ROUND FOR WEHRLEIN

Jun 27, 2024

After a break of one month since Shanghai, Pascal Wehrlein returns to the track this coming weekend for the penultimate round of the FIA Formula E World Championship at the Portland International Raceway in the Pacific North-West region of Oregon (USA). And it is a crucial race for the factory TAG-Heuer Porsche driver, currently lying second in the standings, as his sole priority is to reduce the gap of 25 points to leader Nick Cassidy (Jaguar), with just the final double-header event in London remaining.

The 29-year-old German had a setback in China, pitting with a puncture and finishing P20 after scoring good points for second place in the first race. But he has won twice already this year, in Mexico and Misano, and so it’s all to play for in the final four races of the season.

“Even though Portland isn’t a typical Formula E racetrack, it’s great to go racing in North America,” declared Pascal. “Drawing on last year’s experience in Portland, we should be able to find an ideal set-up for this track. We’re now heading into the sharp end of the season. We need to focus on scoring as many points as possible.”

This is the second visit of the all-electric championship to the 3.190 km PIR, which is a fast and flat permanent circuit with 12 turns in the city’s Delta Park complex. A total of 58 points are up for grabs as it becomes a double-header after last year’s single race, in which Pascal finished eighth and Cassidy took the win.

The Portland weekend follows a regular three-day format, with Free Practice scheduled for Friday afternoon (in the USA), then Free Practice, Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, and the same schedule again on Sunday.

Stay tuned to our social media channels or follow Pascal live on TV worldwide to see how the German gets on in the Portland E-Prix this weekend.
