WEHRLEIN REMAINS SECOND IN CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS AFTER CHAOTIC JAKARTA E-PRIX

Jun 21, 2025

Reigning world champion Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche) could go no higher than eleventh place in a chaotic twelfth round of the 2025 FIA Formula E World Championship in downtown Jakarta.

But with his chief rival and championship leader Oliver Rowland (Nissan) only finishing one place ahead of him, the situation at the top of the table remains virtually unchanged with 69 points between the two and four more races still to go on the calendar.

MIM-contracted Wehrlein, who had already started the day on the back foot after not getting through Qualifying into the Duels, was also penalized two grid positions for driving too slowly as he tried to gain space on the road for one final flying lap. As a result he had to start down in P17.

On a dusty track and in sweltering conditions, the German then spent the entire 38-lap race outside the Top-10 as he was unable to break free of the train-like procession of the early laps.

His first 6-minute Attack Mode on lap 11 did help him to move up to P11 by lap 18, but that was the highest position he could reach as the second half of the race was studded with a sequence of Safety Car exits, Full Course Yellows, incidents and penalizations that took many of the fancied drivers out of contention.

‟It was an eventful race,” declared Pascal. “It was clear that after starting in P17 due to a poor qualifying and a penalty it was going to be tricky on a track where it’s difficult to overtake. We will rest now; there’s a bit of a break. There’s time to analyse and we will go hard in the last four races.”

TAG Heuer Porsche maintain their leading position at the top of the Teams’ table with 203 points and Porsche are 4 points behind Nissan in the Manufacturers’ standings, while the actual race win went to the customer Porsche team Cupra Kiro with Dan Ticktum.

The final two rounds both take place in Europe in July, first Berlin (Germany) on 12/13 then London (UK) on 26/27.
