Just a few days after an encouraging performance in the third round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia, Monaco Increase’s Lirim Zendeli puts on his Mobil 1 Supercup guise for the next round of the European one-make series that supports the Formula 1 Grands Prix.
At the Autodromo Nazionale del Mugello last weekend, the Ombra Racing driver was able to score an excellent podium finish in the first race – his second of the season – with a combative third place behind Porsche ‘experts’, Frenchman Marvin Klein and Dutchman Larry ten Voorde.
Lirim is set to go up again against these and other rivals in Supercup Round 5 at the Hungaroring in Budapest, a narrow twisty course that puts both men and machinery to the test, in the height of a scorching Hungarian summer.
“I’m looking forward to Budapest a lot, I love the track,” said Lirim after Mugello. “I think it’s going to be hotter, and the pressure in the Supercup is much bigger because you’ve got more drivers there, and more drivers at a higher level. It’s a busy schedule with a lot of driving but I’m enjoying it. I’ll just have to keep at it every weekend, you have different races but it’s all good experience.”
While the all-conquering ten Voorde (Schumacher CLRT) runs away with the championship, Lirim’s main aim remains to qualify inside the top-10, get closer to the front and improve on his best eighth-place finish in the wet at Silverstone. He currently lies twelfth overall with 14 points and fifth in the Rookie classification, with his Ombra Racing team third overall.
Round 5 at the Hungaroring gets underway with practice on Friday evening at 6:35 pm (CEST) and continues Saturday morning at 11:20 pm (CEST) with Qualifying. The 16-lap race will be held on Sunday at 12:05 pm (CEST), before the start of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
