ZENDELI’S PORSCHE SUPERCUP CAMPAIGN CONTINUES AT THE RED BULL RING IN AUSTRIA

Jun 27, 2024

Lirim Zendeli’s busy season behind the wheel of his Ombra Racing Porsche 911 GT3 will continue this weekend with the third round of the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (Austria).

The support race for the round of the Formula 1 World Championship at the fast and steep 4.318 km circuit comes one month after the previous encounter in Monaco, where the German-Albanian youngster finished in P11 after qualifying one place further up the grid.

The MIM-contracted driver has not been idle since the last round however, taking part in the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia at the start of June, as well as in the official one-day testing sessions at Zandvoort (Netherlands) and the Hungaroring (Hungary), as he continues with his main priority of accumulating as much experience as possible with the Stuttgart car in his rookie season of GT racing.

“I feel pretty good about this weekend, I know the Red Bull Ring well, but so does everyone else as it’s a common circuit for every race car driver,” declared Zendeli. “It’s not a difficult track but this is exactly what makes the qualifying difficult, I’m sure it will be very close, with probably just a couple of tenths separating the top 10. Obviously I’m looking to get better every race weekend, but you never know in Supercup because it’s not easy. I try to improve every time, so I would say a top 10 finish would be a good result for now and this is what I’m aiming for. I don’t want to expect too much, just focus on improving every race, progress a little bit from Monaco, maybe try to get in the top 7 in qualifying and stay in the top 10 for the race. Many of my opponents are all so experienced which means it’s not very easy.”

The Round 3 schedule sees 45 minutes of Practice on Friday evening, 30 minutes of Qualifying on Saturday afternoon, and the Race on Sunday before the Austrian Grand Prix.
