ZENDELI RESUMES PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPERCUP ACTION AT ZANDVOORT

Aug 23, 2024

Following a four-week summer break, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup roars back into action at Zandvoort in the Netherlands for round 7 of the all-action one-make series this coming weekend followed by the season finale in one week’s time at Monza (Italy).

And the seventh round of the series is sure to be another challenge for Monaco Increase Management’s German driver Lirim Zendeli, who is embarking on his first year in closed-wheel GT racing at the highest level, performing in front of massive Formula 1 crowds all over Europe as part of the Grand Prix support race programme.

Lirim might not be as familiar with the North Sea circuit and its always present wind, sand and unpredictable weather as some of the other tracks on the Supercup racing calendar, but as on every occasion this year he aims to get into the thick of the action and show his potential against more expert Porsche drivers like Dutchmen Larry ten Voorde and recent race winner Marvin Klein.

“It’s been a long time since I sat in the car so I’m quite curious to see how it’ll be coming back,” declared Lirim. “Zandvoort is a track where I haven’t been a lot of times, I’ve been here in Formula 4 about eight years ago so I’m going to take it as I do every race, push 100%, maybe take it a bit easier as it is one of the more challenging tracks this year. I want to show again that I am capable of some good racing, the last two rounds haven’t gone so well for me. I like the track, but I don’t like the weather so much, it’s always so windy, I just hope it’s not going to rain!”

Lirim currently lies in twelfth place in the overall classification with 25 points, a best result of eighth place at Silverstone to his name, and fifth in the Rookie standings.

Practice gets underway on Friday at 2:00 pm (CEST), with Qualifying at 1:00 pm (CEST) on Saturday. The 17-lap race, which is held before the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix, has a scheduled start time of 11:55 am (CEST).
