ZENDELI HEADS TO BELGIUM FOR NEXT PORSCHE SUPERCUP ROUND

Jul 25, 2024

One week after Hungary, and it is time for Monaco Increase Management driver Lirim Zendeli to get back behind the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car again, this time at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium’s Ardennes forests for Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which is blazing a trail across Europe as support category to the summer Formula 1 Grands Prix.

In the five races held so far this year, the German-Albanian driver has been a bit out of luck as the GT rookie has been trying to get to grips with a totally new category of racing and the powerful car from the Stuttgart manufacturer but coupled with his concomitant participation in the domestic Porsche Carrera Cup Italia series, he has shown his potential for better results on several occasions.

The Ombra Racing driver has proven form at Spa-Francorchamps, grabbing pole position, leading every lap and taking the win by four seconds back in 2020, albeit in a single-seater.

“Spa is a fantastic circuit, and I’m thinking back to my victory in Formula 3 here, but now it is a different story,” declared Lirim. “Honestly, I hope that it’s not going to be raining, I would like it to be a bit like mixed conditions, because I haven’t really had a test day here. This is going to be a difficult race, because you must find all the braking references in 45 minutes and it’s a super long track. But luckily, I know the track well because I’ve been here so often, I have good memories here and I think it’s going to give me a small push. I still need to understand the situation with the penalties at Budapest, because I didn’t get a warning and then suddenly just a penalty during the race. But it is what it is, and you must just handle the situation in the best possible way.”

The sixth round in Belgium follows the usual Supercup format with Practice on Friday evening at 18:45 (CEST), Qualifying on Saturday at 11:20 and the 12-lap race on Sunday at 11:45 before the Grand Prix.
