ZENDELI FALLS FOUL OF TRACK LIMITS RULE IN HUNGARIAN PORSCHE SUPERCUP ROUND

Jul 21, 2024

Lirim Zendeli (Ombra Racing) was able to briefly show his mettle in the latest round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Hungaroring, but once again he fell foul of the track limits rule as the German one-make championship lived up to its rough-and-tumble reputation.

Starting from P9 on the grid after qualifying, the MIM-contracted driver powered away at the start of round 5 in front of a massive Hungarian crowd, as well as the Formula 1 fraternity, to move into fifth position at the first corner.

He was then passed by his Ombra Racing teammate, Keagan Masters, dropping down to sixth, a position he held on the road until the chequered flag.

Unfortunately, Lirim, who had been involved in some close-quarter battles with other drivers throughout the race, was penalized for multiple track limit infringements and handed a five-second penalty, which dropped him down to P11 at the chequered flag.

“I crossed the finish line in P6 on the track, however I had a five-second penalty that dropped us back to eleventh place,” declared Lirim. “It doesn’t hide the fact that we are working in the right direction. A big thanks to Ombra Racing for their continuous great work. Now on to Spa next week!”
