Monaco Increase Management driver Pascal Wehrlein came back on top of the ABB FIA Formula E championship standings after a successful weekend in the capital city of Indonesia in which he brought home a victory and a sixth place in Rounds 10 and 11 respectively. This means that ahead of the Indycar Detroit Grand Prix, two MIM drivers – Wehrlein and Alex Palou who starts from pole position – are in the lead of their respective series! This obviously is a source of pride for everyone at our company and also puts a premium on consistency as a trademark for both Pascal and Alex.
After his commanding win in the first of the two races that compose the Jakarta e-prix, Wehrlein was going to start the second event on Sunday from third row on the grid, having managed P6 in qualifying on the 2.37 Km, 18-turn course. Race distance was two laps more than on Saturday for a total of 38, which called for a revised energy management strategy. Starting on the dirt side of the track, Wehrlein slipped into P7 but then paced himself until Lap 14 when se served the first two-minute Attack Mode stint. After that, he quickly recovered positions entering Top 4, he and his TAG Porsche team choosing to delay the second and final 6-minute Attack Mode to the last stages of the race. Wehrlein had managed to pass Vandoorne at this point and he kept P6 to the end of the race. His main contender for the championship, Nick Cassidy, damaged his car while trying to attack Wehrlein and took no points in the race, while Jake Dennis took second place finish and fastest lap. Therefore, the current points standings has MIM’s Wehrlein as the new leader (a place he had kept consistently until Monaco) with 134 points and Dennis close behind at 133. On top of that, Wehrlein’s results in the Indonesian weekend were also instrumental in securing the lead for Porsche in the Constructors’ classification so far. The next round of the Formula E world series will be held June 24 in Portland, Oregon, on the same track which hosts the Indycar event-so that for once Pascal will be racing on Alex’s turf!
