Pascal Wehrlein (#94 TAG-Heuer Porsche) will be lining up as championship leader for Rounds 9 and 10 of the FIA Formula E World Championship this weekend – his home race at the Tempelhof Airport circuit in Berlin – with a narrow seven-point advantage over his closest challenger, New Zealander Nick Cassidy (Jaguar).
The 29-year-old German-Mauritian from Sigmaringen came away from the home race of his MIM management team at Monaco with more points on the board for his eventual fifth place accompanied by a second pole position of the year, but he is convinced that he can obtain a better result this time around in Berlin on a circuit that offers numerous opportunities for overtaking.
“I’m feeling good about Berlin, it is our home Formula E race and I’m really looking forward it,” he commented. “I think overtaking there should be quite a bit easier than the last round in Monaco.”
The Berlin E-Prix marks the start of the second half of the season, which promises to be increasingly intense as the final four double-header rounds play out over the next two months. So far, Pascal Wehrlein has been the only two-time winner, but five drivers are all within striking distance so consistency will be required as well as a cool head in the remaining races, both characteristics that he has demonstrated this year.
The Berlin airport field circuit has undergone some significant modifications for Season 10 and it now measures 2.343 km with 15 turns. Pascal has taken part in four editions of the German round and he finished seventh and sixth in last year’s two races, which remains his best-ever placing at Templehof.
Formula E is back to its regular three-day format this weekend, with Free Practice scheduled for Friday afternoon, then Free Practice, Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, and the same timetable again on Sunday.
Stay tuned to our social media channels or follow Pascal live on TV worldwide as the two German rounds of the all-electric Formula E championship play out in Berlin.
