WEHRLEIN HOLDS THE CROWN AS FORMULA E SEASON 11 GETS UNDERWAY IN BRAZIL

Dec 5, 2024

Reigning world champion Pascal Wehrlein gets his FIA Formula E World Championship title defence underway this weekend in São Paulo (Brazil), the TAG Heuer Porsche driver lining up for the start of Season 11 of the all-electric series in his factory 99X machine.

The Monaco Increase Management contracted driver, who will be on the Formula E grid for a sixth season – a fifth consecutive with the Stuttgart manufacturer – bearing the #1 plate for his 2024 win, is feeling confident about his title defence, especially after being right on the pace during the November pre-season test with the new GEN3 Evo race car. New features for this evolution version include all-wheel drive capability, grippier Hankook tyres, re-homologated powertrains and a faster car and revamped body kit.

“Our goals are clear: We want to defend the drivers’ world championship,” declared Pascal. “However, there are also the team and the manufacturers’ titles. All three are important to us. Testing with the new GEN3 Evo cars went well. Personally, I also really like our new purple and green livery. We have revamped our pit to match the new colours. I’ve also modified my helmet to ensure that everything is perfect for the start of our sixth Formula E season.”

Formula E heads to São Paulo for the third time in three years, the first as opening round, and the race takes place at the Anhembi Sambadrome. Three long straights, a couple of chicanes, a rounded hairpin and a number of ninety-degree turns make up the 2.93 km circuit, which if last year’s classic, in which Pascal set pole position and finished fourth, is anything to go by, is sure to provide exciting wheel-to-wheel action down to the final corner.

The São Paulo E-Prix gets underway on Friday 6 December with Free Practice 1 taking place at 17:00 local time / 21:00 CET. Race day is on Saturday 7 December with FP2 at 07:30 / 11:30 CET, qualifying at 09:40 / 13:40 CET and the race at 14:05 / 18:05 CET.
