WEHRLEIN BACK IN THE COCKPIT FOR HANKOOK MEXICO CITY E-PRIX

Jan 9, 2025

TAG Heuer Porsche factory driver Pascal Wehrlein steps back into the cockpit of his Porsche 99X Electric this weekend for the second round of the FIA Formula E World Championship, which takes place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, just one month on from his dramatic accident in the opening round in Brazil.

Season 11 for the reigning world champion did not get off to the best start in São Paulo when the MIM-contracted driver ended up overturned in the wall as a result of a racing incident, but after mandatory medical checks and a period of recovery over the holiday break, the German-Mauritian is now ready to tackle the Mexican round fully recovered and raring to get his 2025 season back on track.

“I’m pleased to be able to drive again in Mexico because the accident in São Paulo was a serious one and I came away from it with a few injuries,” declared Pascal. “The festive season has helped me to recover, allowing me to go on the attack again. Apart from the accident, things went well in Brazil and despite not having the best laps in qualifying, I was able to claim pole. That gives us confidence, particularly since we have often been very strong in Mexico in the past. I would like to thank the rescue team in São Paulo – and our own team who are getting my Porsche ready for Mexico.”

Pascal has an excellent record in Mexico City, taking pole position and the win there last year as well as further wins and poles on the other configurations of the circuit, which has been a staple of the championship since 2016. With its 2.63 km in length and 19 turns, the Autódromo is one of the fastest on the calendar and the race always offers an electrifying spectacle for the raucous fans in the Foro Sol stadium section.

All the action in Mexico takes place over the space of 24 hours, with Free Practice 1 and FP2 at 00:00 and 14:30 respectively on Saturday 11 January, while Qualifying is at 16:40 and the Race start is scheduled for 21:05 CET.
