TAG Heuer Porsche factory driver Pascal Wehrlein will start today’s first race in the Shanghai E-Prix in third place from row 2 of the grid after the reigning world champion had a difficult free practice session earlier in the day.
MIM-contracted Wehrlein once again produced some brilliant qualifying form to turn things around in the morning sessions after FP2 had seen him uncharacteristically down in P18.
The German first set a lap of 1m10.287s in the Group B stage to go through into the one-lap shootout Duels with the third-quickest time.
Then in the Quarter-Finals he was able to see off Nyck De Vries (Mahindra) with a time of 1m08.683s, 0.059s ahead of the Dutchman.
In the Semi-Final duel he just lost out against the McLaren youngster Taylor Barnard by 0.145s, but his time of 1m8.648s was good enough for P3 on the grid, where he will start the 29-lap tenth round of the season alongside Nick Cassidy (Jaguar), who was defeated in the other Semi-Final by Max Guenther (DS Penske).
