Lirim Zendeli got a taste of GT machinery for the first time around the Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet, France this week as the German-Albanian driver took part in a two-day test with a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 of Andrea Grillini’s Monaco-based GSM Racing team.
The test, organized by MIM CEO Salvatore Gandolfo, was a run-out for Lirim in view of a possible participation in the GT World Challenge this season, which would mark a different career direction for the 24-year-old from Bochum (Germany) whose racing experience so far has been exclusively in single-seater formulae.
Lirim declared: “Testing was a good experience, thanks to everyone! First of all it was nice to sit in the car again after about six months, and a new experience for me in a GT car. We didn’t get to drive a lot because we shared the car but still I got some important mileage. Times were not representative, it was just to see how I feel in a GT car and working with teammates, because up to now I was used to being alone and it’s different when you share the car. You start to think more as a team; motorsports is always a team sport but if you have a teammate usually you need him to be fast as well so you help out and this is very new and cool experience for me. I loved the Huracán GT3 and in particular the sound, it’s what you expect from a Lamborghini, a very aggressive and pointy car, but I’m a driver that doesn’t mind a car that, let’s say, is nervous, this is what I found and I can handle it. Obviously we are looking at getting a good cockpit in GT racing, especially as I’m ranked Silver because I’ve been a Formula 2 driver. I think it’s a great opportunity for me to learn and get experience, but also for the teams who usually need a fast Silver driver for GT so hopefully the doors might be open.”
