P8 AND FIRST ROOKIE PODIUM FOR ZENDELI IN PORSCHE SUPERCUP AT SILVERSTONE

Jul 7, 2024

Lirim Zendeli continued his positive GT learning curve with an overall P8 in round 4 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, a result that enabled the MIM-contracted driver to notch up his first-ever Rookie podium with a third place in the category. Larry ten Voorde continued his Supercup domination, notching up his fourth win in four races for the Schumacher CLRT team.

Starting from tenth on the grid after qualifying, the #19 Ombra Racing driver gained two positions during the race, which started and finished behind the Safety Car as the unfeasibly wet weather conditions meant that it was reduced to 11 laps from 14 due to the rain and time constraints.

Given his limited experience in the wet with the Stuttgart manufacturer’s 510 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine, it was an encouraging performance by Zendeli, who held on to tenth position for the first six laps, under pressure from Mathys Jaubert, Jaap van Lagen and Alexander Tauscher, before moving up the classification after the two Uniserver drivers Ariel Levi and then Huub van Eijndhoven went off in the wet conditions.

“It’s great to score my first Rookie podium in Supercup,” declared Lirim. “It has been a tricky weekend in these conditions, and it was a difficult race, but I managed to finish with a P3 in the Rookie classification and a P8 overall. A big thanks to my Ombra Racing team for providing me with a fast car in all conditions. Now I’m looking forward to Budapest in two weeks’ time.”

Lirim’s busy month of July continues with three Porsche races in a row, the third round of the Carrera Cup Italia next weekend at Mugello followed by back-to-back rounds of the Mobil 1 Supercup in Hungary and at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
