P11 FOR ZENDELI IN PORSCHE SUPERCUP ROUND 2 AT MONACO

May 26, 2024

Lirim Zendeli (Ombra Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) concluded his second experience in the 2024 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in eleventh place at the end of the 17-lap race on the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit.

With the top 10 positions remaining virtually unchanged throughout and very little overtaking possible around the tight Monaco street circuit, Supercup expert Larry ten Voorde (Schumacher CLRT) took his second win of the season ahead of Harry King (BWT Lechner Racing) and Lirim’s teammate in Ombra Racing, the South African Keagan Masters.

Starting from row 5 of the grid after qualifying in tenth position, the MIM-contracted driver lost out to Frenchman Mathys Jaubert (Martinet by Almeras) during the second lap and then remained in the same position until the chequered flag.

After losing the tow from Jaubert, in the final stages of the race Lirim came under a bit of pressure from a group of four closely following drivers headed by Theo Oeverhaus (BWT Lechner), but he held on to finish in P11, almost half-a-minute behind the winner.

“It’s a big progress from Imola, it’s just very unfortunate that the start was a bit crazy,” said Lirim. “I almost gained a position but I actually lost one, I was at the wrong time in the wrong place and couldn’t really do anything. From there I just kept the car going until the end and that was pretty much it. I was in a high-risk spot, when you start in P10, everyone in front is really stuck at the start so for P19, 10 and 11 it gets really slow into turn 6, whether you’re on the outside or the inside, you can be lucky to gain one position and that’s what happened. Some points, good progress, far from the podium so now we just need to focus on Imola.”

The next Porsche appointment for the German-Albanian driver will be in exactly one week’s time at the Autodromo di Imola (Italy) for the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia.
