Monaco, January 29 – Monaco Increase managed driver Pascal Wehrlein fought adversities to bring home a ninth place and two well-deserved points at the end of the opening round of the ABB FIA Formula E 2022 Championship.
MIM driver Wehrlein had showed good pace overall, topping the time sheets in the final Saturday practice. But he was hampered by other drivers in both the Friday and Saturday qualifying sessions (which feature a new bump-off format this season), resulting in his #94 TAG Porsche 99X Electric being placed in P10 and P11 on the grid respectively. That meant that Pascal had to make his way through midfield, and he did so in both occasions. In the first race, though, both Porsche cars seemed to struggle with tyres towards the end and Pascal could go no further than P11, sill managing to come ahead of his teammate André Lotterer.
Race 2 was a different story and Wehrlein was able to gain a couple places and remain steadily in the points-awarding zone, taking good advantage of both 30 Kw ‘attack mode’ stints and bringing home a bold passing move on poleman Nick De Vries in the last stages of the race, which ended under the safety car. Now the Monaco Increase driver is looking forward to the next round in Mexico City, where he scored a win last year, which was subsequently taken away from him because of a team’s formal error.
