Factory TAG Heuer Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein came away from the E-Prix double-header weekend in Saudi Arabia with just four points for eighth place in the second encounter held at the Jeddah Corniche circuit.
It was a difficult weekend all-round for the official Porsche team and the reigning Formula E world champion only really looked comfortable in Friday’s Qualifying, when he powered his Porsche 99X machine to a brilliant front row starting grid position for the first race.
But Saturday was also short on satisfaction for the MIM-contracted driver, who finished P5 in the third free practice session, and then started P13 on the grid after missing out on the Qualifying duels.
Pascal did produce a fantastic first four-minute Attack Mode on lap 6 when he scythed his way through the field from P14 to third place in just two laps, but the German then slipped back down to P11 as the rest of the field cycled through their energy boosts, and he could only make up three places in his second Attack Mode to finish in eighth place.
The 2025 Formula E calendar will now see a break of two months with the next round held in Miami (USA) on April 12th.
“We had a software issue in qualifying which cost us performance,” said Pascal. “At one point the race felt quite good, but at the end it didn’t feel quite as good anymore. It is a bit difficult to understand why we lost so many places.”
