Monaco Increase Management driver Pascal Wehrlein secured a fantastic pole position with a best lap time of 1min07sec100 today in the Mexican round of the ABB Formula E World Championship. That’s Wehrlein’s second pole in his career in the category and the first conquered under the new elimination format.
After having been steadily quick in both practice sessions, Wehrlein powered his #94 Tag Porsche through the finish line as the fastest driver in his qualifying group. Thanks to his fine driving, which allowed him to come round nicely round Turn 1 where most drivers struggled under braking, the MIM driver came easily ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne in the quarter-finals, then beat Jean-Eric Vergne in a thrilling semifinal, thanks to a sensational drive in the last sector.
So, it was down to the final shootout against Edoardo Mortara. The final one-lap challenge was a fight down to the wire, but Wehrlein kept a cold head all the way through the hot lap on the Hermanos Rodriguez 2.606 Km long track, while his rival lost control on his car right at the exit of the Peraltada corner and crossed the finish line sideways!
The Julius Baer Pole Position gave Pascal three additional points ahead of the race which takes place at 11PM CET.
