MIM driver Pascal Wehrlein will start today’s second Tokyo e-Prix encounter from row 2 of the grid after an excellent performance in Qualifying.
Unlike Saturday, when the key session was washed out by heavy rain leaving Pascal down the field after it was decided that the FP2 times would determine the grid positions, today the much-improved weather conditions and a dry track allowed the 2024 Formula E world champion to express his true potential.
In the early morning the German immediately looked fast at 350kW and AWD to head FP3 with a time of 1m12.011s, and then topped Group B in Qualifying, a result that put him up face-to-face with his TAG-Heuer Porsche teammate Antonio Felix da Costa in the Quarter-Finals.
This in-house duel ended with Pascal gradually increasing his advantage to take the win by six-tenths of a second at the chequered flag.
In the Semi-Final, Wehrlein then faced off against Dan Ticktum (Cupra Kiro), with the British driver taking the win. Ticktum had held the lead in the first section, only for Wehrlein to chase and claw back the advantage. It was close at the chequered flag, with just one-tenth of a second separating the two.
The front row of the grid for today’s ninth round of the championship will see Oliver Rowland (Nissan) on pole, with Ticktum alongside, while Pascal and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Penske) are on row 2.
