The rookie season of David Vidales in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe came to a conclusion with a P21 finish at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia as two of the Spanish driver’s brand-mates in the AF Corse Ferrari – Francorchamps Motors squadron, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Alessio Rovera – clinched the 2024 Drivers’ Championship title with a third-place finish after a dramatic finale.
Held over six hours at the challenging high-speed waterfront circuit, the final round of the Endurance Cup saw the red and yellow #71 Ferrari 296 GT3 machine – piloted by MIM-contracted Vidales together with his teammates, Thomas Neubauer and Vincent Abril – start from fifteenth place on the grid after qualifying.
David took over the driving from Abril shortly after the two-hour mark in thirteenth place, losing several positions during the mandatory driver change pitstop, but the young Spanish driver was able to work his way back up to P17 before handing over to Neubauer for the final two hours. A late spin for his teammate dropped the French-Spanish trio down to 21st place at the chequered flag.
“Unfortunately this wasn’t exactly the result that we wanted,” declared David. “Nevertheless I’m really happy with how my double stint went and my weekend overall. I had a strong race, made no mistakes and gave the car to my teammate in a better position than what I found it, so by looking at this I’m quite satisfied.
My expectations were quite low getting to the weekend since it was my first-ever street circuit with a GT car and I hadn’t driven since Monza, but I still managed to be competitive at one lap and race pace, so we can be happy about everything.”
