Pascal Wehrlein returns to the home circuit of Monaco Increase Management this weekend as the French Riviera city-state gets ready to host the eighth round of the FIA Formula E World Championship, the mid-point of the season.

The Monaco E-Prix is the jewel in the crown of the all-electric globetrotting championship – the race they all want to win – and it will be doubly so this time around for the #94 TAG-Heuer Porsche factory driver as he has yet to taste the victory champagne there in four participations. The closest the German came to a win was two years ago when he started second on the grid but lost power while leading the race.

Pascal comes to Monaco back at the top of the championship table, albeit on a par with Andretti’s Jake Dennis after an incredible last round at Misano (Italy), where he inherited the win on the last lap of round 7 after finishing out of the points in the first encounter.

“Monaco will be a bit of a different story to the last round at Misano, it’s a different type of track and last year we didn’t do too well there either, so for sure there’s a bit of catch-up work to do,” declared Pascal. “Generally I’m feeling optimistic however especially because we have improved qualifying and our race pace is good so there is no reason why we shouldn’t be competitive. To be at the front, we have to find a set-up that allows plenty of grip in the fast corners and offers good balance but doesn’t result in too much understeer in tight corners like Rascasse, but we don’t have much time to find the best compromise. It’d be ideal if we arrived at the track already well sorted – but even then it’ll still be difficult. In Monaco, it feels like every driver pushes a little more than usual because everyone wants to win here.”

For its seventh visit to Monaco, Formula E will once again race around the entire 3.337 km street circuit normally used for Formula 1, with the electric single-seaters sure to provide spectacularly close action on the 19-turn layout with evocative corner names such as La Rascasse, Mirabeau and Casino Square.

Once again, Formula E reverts to an early start and an intense Saturday-only affair, with Free Practice 1 and 2 followed by Qualifying all taking place before noon and the Round 8 race starting at 3 pm in the afternoon.
