MIM driver concludes 13th after a brilliant start in Formula 3 feature race

Monaco Increase Management driver David Vidales’s Hungarian weekend was far from what he expected. The 20-years old Spaniard could not put his skills to good use as once again his performance was affected by incorrect timing in Friday’s qualifying session. Vidales was 11th best minutes before the end of the session but stayed in the garage as other drivers improved and ended up sixteenth on the grid. His Sprint race was cut short already in the first lap by a collision with Campos Racing team-mate Pep Martì. Sunday’s feature race started on a damp track and Vidales took advantage of the conditions with a scorching start that put him in P9 after a few corners. The MIM driver even briefly challenged and passed Collet for eigth and then had a good battle with Reece Ushijima before his pace dropped slightly on the drying track. Vidales did his best to resist an attack from Prema’s Arthur Leclerc and the two cars battled in and off track, but in the end David, his wet tires suffering from overheating, was unable to defend a point zone result against drivers who charged from the back at blistering pace after having switched to slick tires. So, Vidales’ hopes for more points are only postponed to the next round of the FIA F3 championship that will take place on the iconic Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps after the summer break.
