A good comeback for MIM’s Formula E driver from 18th on the grid to 10th

Pascal Wehrlein concluded the first race of the London double-header with a tenth place that does not fully reflect the potential of the Monaco Increase Managed driver. Wehrlein’s race was actually compromised in qualifying, as the TAG-Porsche driver could not put a flying lap together in the second and decisive stint of his group, having to settle for ninth row on the grid of the distinctive, 22-turn course set in East London’s docklands. When the starting lights came out, Pascal had to work his way through the field and he did so by overtaking former Formula 1 driver and team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi, and subsequently passing another F1 veteran, Jean-Eric Vergne, for P15 under ‘full attack’ mode. With about 12 minutes to go, Wehrlein entered the ‘Activation Zone’ for the second time, showing good pace and excellent energy management in a race where several drivers had to struggle with power reserve in the end. Wehrlein’s tenth place is worth a point and it also reflects the MIM’s driver position in the ABB Formula E championship points standings, with a total of 64 ahead of Sunday’s second race of the event.
