MIM driver after Indy: “I had a lot of fun and made many passes, now I want to win the next race”

When Monaco Increase Management driver Alex Palou climbed out of his #10 Honda-powered Dallara car after nearly three hours of racing, he didn’t quite look like a survivor. His attitude was calm as ever, his hair still neatly combed. True, he had missed an opportunity to win the historic Speedway race, after leading 47 out of 200 laps (second only to Scott Dixon); but he had nothing to blame himself for not winning, as an incredibly unfortunate circumstance had prevented him from executing his second planned pit-call, when the “pit road closed” light flashed with thousands of seconds from him entering the service lane. But Palou rather took the positives out of his Sunday and was happy for his CGR-team mate Marcus Ericsson taking the win.
““I had a lot of fun in this race” said the 25-years old from Sant Antoni Vilamajor (pictured here at the Speedway with MIM founder and CEO Salvatore Gandolfo) “but there was just one point where my heart broke in pieces. We just kept going and had a good result at the end of the day. It was the most overtaking moves I’ve made in an oval race, so I’m happy with getting back up there. I’m proud of the team and super proud for Marcus.”
And indeed, the total count of 29 on-track passes is something Alex can be proud of in his comeback from the bottom of the pack to an encouraging final P9. Under the double-scoring point system enforced at Indy, Palou is a solid third in the Indycar series standings, only one point short of Pato O’Ward and just 14 away from new leader Ericsson. The ingredients are all there to see MIM’s Palou in the fight for a back-to-back championship title and Alex can’t wait for the next event in line, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix coming up already this weekend. “The car was really good at Indy and now I’m aiming for a win at Detroit”.
