Spanish driver David Vidales kick-starts his 2024 racing season with a bang this weekend as he makes his GT racing debut for the AF Corse – Francorchamps Motors team in the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS championship at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
The MIM-contracted driver has switched to international GT racing this year, where he will get a chance to shine in one of the most successful and prestigious endurance racing teams in the world, at the wheel of a red Ferrari 296 GT3.
“I’m absolutely looking forward to Paul Ricard, now the real thing starts so I’m super excited,” declared the 21-year-old Spaniard on the eve of the race. “It’s all new for me, with GT racing, endurance weekends, doing one-hour stints for the first time, and also with this car. It’s very exciting but at the same time very challenging. I still have to learn many things, but I have been preparing myself in the best possible way to be ready for this. I can’t wait to start!”
This year David, whose teammates in the #71 Ferrari will be the French duo of Thomas Neubauer and Vincent Abril, will compete in the five Endurance Cup rounds of GT racing’s leading global series, which enters its fourteenth season under the banner of the SRO Motorsports Group.
This weekend’s action at the iconic Paul Ricard circuit near Marseille gets underway with Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying on Saturday, while actual Qualifying will be on Sunday morning. The three-hour race around the 15-turn, 5.791 km circuit will start at 1500 CET in the afternoon.
